The government has declared a seven-day holiday for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, spanning from May 25 to May 31.
The decision was finalized during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday evening at the Secretariat. According to a statement from the Cabinet Division, the extended break is intended to ease the travel rush and allow citizens to celebrate the festival with their families more comfortably.
Schedule Adjustments
To facilitate the week-long break, the government has made a strategic change to the working calendar:
May 23 (Saturday): The regular weekly holiday is canceled; offices will remain open.
May 24 (Sunday): Offices will remain open as usual.
May 25 – May 31: Official Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
Eid-ul-Azha is expected to be celebrated on May 28, pending the sighting of the moon. This move follows a similar strategy used during Eid-ul-Fitr earlier this year to manage the massive exodus of home-bound travelers from the capital.
National Public Toilet Policy 2026 Approved
In the same meeting, the cabinet approved the draft of the 'National Public Toilet Policy 2026.' This policy aims to ensure hygienic and quality public toilet facilities nationwide. Improve public health and cleanliness standards. Provide user-friendly facilities specifically for women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
