Tension has gripped the Goalchamot area of Faridpur city following the demolition of a madrasa building and a retaliatory arson attack on a local shop on Wednesday.
The conflict began between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM at the Jamia Islamia Ashraful Uloom Madrasa. Witnesses reported that a group led by local political figures used an excavator to demolish a tin-shed building belonging to the madrasa. During the incident, two teachers were reportedly beaten while attempting to stop the demolition. One of the victims, Maulana Muhibullah, is currently receiving treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
The attack was allegedly led by Abdul Alim, vice-president of the district JASAS, alongside several other local political leaders.
In retaliation, an angry mob attacked and set fire to a "super shop" owned by Abdul Alim, located adjacent to the madrasa, around 6:00 PM.
Local sources indicate the violence stems from a long-standing land dispute between Abdul Alim and Maulana Muhibullah. While police managed to bring the situation under control, residents remain fearful of further clashes.
Faridpur Kotwali Police Station OC Mahamudul Hasan confirmed that additional forces have been deployed to the area. "We rushed to the scene and pacified both sides. Legal action will be taken once formal complaints are lodged," he stated.
