


The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast gusty winds of up to 60 kmph and thundershowers in eight regions of the country by 1am.
The warning was issued in an inland river port forecast signed by meteorologist Dr Md Omar Farooq on Thursday (May 7).
According to the forecast, temporary gusty or squally winds with speeds between 45 and 60 kmph may sweep over Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet from the west or northwest.
Rain or thundershowers may also occur in these areas. River ports in the affected regions have been advised to display cautionary signal No. 1.
In its five-day forecast issued from 9am Thursday, the BMD said a low-pressure trough extends from West Bengal to the north Bay of Bengal.
Under its influence, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning may occur at a few places in Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and at one or two places in Rangpur, Dhaka, Chittagong, Mymensingh, Barisal and Sylhet divisions over the next 24 hours.
The Met Office also said day and night temperatures may rise slightly across the country, and the warming trend could continue over the next few days.
