Fifteen high-ranking army officers, who are facing charges including alleged killings during the July uprising and two cases of enforced disappearance, have been transferred to a sub-jail located within the cantonment after appearing before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-1) today.
The accused officers, ranging in rank from Major General to Major were in the custody of the Bangladesh Army before being produced at the tribunal around 7:00 am amid stringent security measures. Personnel from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), and police were deployed around the court premises for the hearing.
Defence counsel Barrister M Sarwar Hossain confirmed the transfer, noting the prison authorities would now assess the arrangements at the sub-jail. The officers were transported in a green, air-conditioned special prison van.
