The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 has set November 13 to fix the date for announcing the judgment in the crimes against humanity case involving three accused, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The tribunal’s order followed the conclusion of arguments today, where Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam placed the prosecution's rebuttal and Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman argued for the maximum punishment for the accused.
The case involves alleged crimes committed during the July Mass Uprising. The defence, representing fugitives Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and co-accused (and approver) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, concluded their arguments on October 22.
A total of 54 prosecution witnesses testified in the case. Hasina and Kamal are currently absconding (believed to be in India) and are being tried in absentia after failing to surrender by the June 24, 2025 deadline, as mandated by the tribunal. The trio faces five charges of crimes against humanity and mass killings.
