The Chief Adviser's Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, announced that the government's primary mission and solemn pledge is to extradite and try the individuals responsible for the "July atrocities".
Speaking at the inauguration of an inter-college football tournament in Magura, Shafiqul Alam stated that the main target is to "bring back the killers of the July massacre," calling it the government's "oath and commitment."
He accused the "fascist government" of killing numerous students and people during the July Uprising, asserting that the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has proven this "genocide."
Alam confirmed that the ICT has handed down death sentences to Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. The government intends to seek their extradition to Bangladesh, noting that they retain the right to appeal. He stressed the government will "do our best to ensure that their verdicts are executed expeditiously following domestic and international legal procedures."
He vowed to bring back "everyone whose hands are stained with blood," declaring it a duty to the martyrs and stating there would be "no concession on this matter." Alam acknowledged the election is "about 70 days" away and expressed uncertainty about completing the extradition and trial process within that timeframe, but assured the government will try.
The Press Secretary described BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia as a "national leader" and a "leader of the mass people." He prayed for her recovery, noting her presence is vital for Bangladesh, and expressed hope she would participate and contest in the upcoming election.
He reiterated the government's commitment to holding a free, fair, neutral, and credible election by February 15 next year with the participation of all political parties, confirming the Election Commission has concluded discussions.
