US President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he is currently not considering a deal that would allow Ukraine to acquire long-range Tomahawk missiles for use against Russia.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, President Trump indicated his ongoing reluctance toward the proposal, stating, "No, not really," when asked about the Tomahawk deal. He added, however, that he is open to changing his mind later.
The President has consistently expressed coolness toward plans for the United States to sell the Tomahawks—which have a range of 2,500 km (1,550 miles), making them capable of striking deep inside Russia, including Moscow—saying he does not want to escalate the war.
The potential Tomahawk sale was discussed with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during their meeting at the White House on October 22. Rutte had previously indicated the issue was under review and ultimately depended on a US decision.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has officially requested the missiles, but the Kremlin has issued warnings against any provision of Tomahawks to Ukraine.
