The 1st University Day-2025 was celebrated with elaborate arrangements to commemorate the first anniversary of Sunamganj's largest institution, Sunamganj University of Science and Technology (SUSP), located in Shantiganj.

The official activities for University Day commenced at 10 am on Monday, November 3, at Subiprob's temporary campus in Shantiganj. The event featured the hoisting of the national flag, the release of doves as a symbol of peace, and a vibrant joy rally.

The rally initiated from Subiprob's temporary campus and concluded with a discussion meeting at the Shantiganj Jhilmil Auditorium.

The meeting was co-moderated by Subiprob's Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Nizam Uddin, along with lecturers Shanta Rani Saha and Saidul Islam, and was chaired by Professor Dr. A.M. Sarwar Uddin, Vice Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.

Special guests at the meeting included Sylhet Agricultural University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Alimul Islam, Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi, Subiprob's Dean Dr. Harunur Rashid, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Md. Ilias Mia, and Police Superintendent Tofail Ahmed.

During the discussions, the speakers emphasized to the students that universities serve as centers for research. While education from primary to higher secondary levels is primarily textbook-based, approximately 60 percent of university education is research-oriented. New ideas are generated through research. It is acknowledged that Bangladeshi universities often lack sufficient research facilities.

However, this should not deter the utilization of existing resources. We must distance ourselves from divisive student politics. There was a period when students were armed within the universities of the nation, making them resemble military barracks. We hope that in the future, the government will take steps to enhance the quality of education, increase funding for education, and broaden the scope of research. Subiprabi is poised to significantly contribute to the advancement of the often-overlooked district of Sunamganj in the educational sector.

Currently, Subiprabi Proctor Professor Dr. Sheikh Abdul Latif, Subiprabi Registrar Engineer Sarfuddin, Subiprabi Syndicate Member Ansar Uddin, Shantiganj Upazila Executive Officer Sukanta Saha, along with the university's faculty, students, and local representatives from different professions were in attendance.
