BNP National Standing Committee member and candidate for Sirajganj-2 (Sadar-Kamarkhand), Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, has shared his vision for transforming Sirajganj into a well-ordered, crime-free, and beautiful city.
Speaking to reporters after submitting his nomination papers on Monday, December 29, the veteran leader outlined key development goals and political observations.
Tuku emphasized beautifying the Katakhal River, drawing parallels to famous river-based cities worldwide. He noted that while he initiated development during his previous ministerial tenure, the progress was lost over the last 17 years.
He stated that a well-ordered and safe environment would naturally trigger economic prosperity for the region. The candidate reaffirmed commitment to BNP’s 31-point state reform agenda, which includes issuing family, agricultural, and health cards to ensure a welfare-oriented state.
Tuku expressed optimism about the upcoming polls, describing them as an opportunity born from a "mass uprising." However, he raised significant security concerns. He urged the current government to prioritize the recovery of weapons, including those looted during recent unrest, to ensure a fair voting environment.
He called upon the younger generation of voters to take responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the electoral process. Addressing questions regarding other parties, Tuku criticized religion-based politics that cause division. He echoed Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s vision of a peaceful, inclusive state where all citizens of Bangladesh remain united regardless of background.
The candidate was accompanied by senior district BNP leaders, including General Secretary Saidur Rahman Bachchu and former Mayor Manjur Hasan Mahmud Khushi, among other front-ranking activists from the Jubo Dal, Volunteer Party, and Chhatra Dal.
