Five from Gaibandha killed by train in Tangail

Five people from Gaibandha’s Sadullapur upazila, including a mother and her son, were killed after being hit by a train in Kalihati, Tangail, on Friday night.

The accident occurred around 8:00 PM in the Dhlatengor area. All victims were residents of Dhaperhat Union in Sadullapur. They have been identified as Nargis, 35, her son Nirob, 11, Sultan, 30, Ripa, 20, and Dola Begum, 35.

According to police and local sources, the victims were traveling to Dhaka by bus. The vehicle reportedly ran out of fuel and stalled on the side of the highway. While waiting for the bus to resume its journey, several passengers sat on the nearby railway tracks.

The Dhaka-bound Sirajganj Express struck the group, killing five on the spot.

SI Mizanur Rahman of the Tangail Railway Station Outpost confirmed that police recovered the bodies and sent them for autopsy. The remains were later handed over to their families.

A pall of gloom descended on the victims' villages as the bodies arrived home. Sadullapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Alim stated that while they were not officially notified, they are aware of the incident through local reports.
