The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification today (14 May), declaring a seven-day public holiday from 25 to 31 May for the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.
To accommodate the extended break, the regular weekly holiday on 23 May has been cancelled. As a result, offices will remain open on that day, making 24 May the final working day before the Eid vacation. Eid-ul-Adha is expected to be celebrated on 28 May, subject to the sighting of the moon.
All government, semi-government, autonomous, and private offices will remain closed during this seven-day period.
However, emergency and essential services are strictly exempt from the closure. Operations including electricity, water, gas, fire services, ports, city cleaning, telecommunications, and postal services will continue uninterrupted. Hospitals, healthcare workers, and vehicles transporting medical equipment will also operate as usual.
The notification added that Bangladesh Bank and the Supreme Court will issue their own directives regarding banking and court activities during the holidays.
Similarly, the Ministry of Labour and Employment will provide specific operational guidelines for private factories and industrial establishments in accordance with the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006.
