Candidates' election campaign ends Tuesday morning

The election campaigning of the candidates contesting the 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum will end tomorrow, Tuesday at 7:30 am. The election campaign, which began on January 22, will end 48 hours before the voting on February 12.

Section 18 of the EC's Political Parties and Candidates' Code of Conduct 2025 states, 'No registered political party or candidate nominated by it or independent candidate or any other person on their behalf shall commence any election campaign 3 (three) weeks before the day fixed for polling and shall end the election campaign 48 hours before the commencement of polling.'

In this regard, Akhtar Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat, said that political party campaigning in the election will end at 7:30 am on February 10, 48 hours before the polling in the election.

The 13th National Parliamentary Election and Referendum will be held on Thursday, February 12. Voting for the 13th National Parliamentary Election and Referendum will be held simultaneously in 299 parliamentary constituencies across the country from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm on Thursday through ballot papers in transparent ballot boxes.

The EC recently cancelled the 13th National Assembly elections in Sherpur-3 constituency due to the death of a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate. Due to this, the 13th National Assembly elections are being held simultaneously in 299 parliamentary constituencies, excluding this constituency.

A total of 51 political parties are participating in the 13th National Parliament election. A total of 2,034 candidates are running in the election. Of these, 275 are independent candidates. BNP has fielded the most candidates among the political parties. 291 candidates are contesting the election with the party's symbol of a grain of rice.

Besides, the second highest number of 258 candidates of Islami Andolan Bangladesh is contesting with the hand fan symbol. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's 229 candidates are contesting with the scales symbol. In addition, 198 candidates are contesting with the plow symbol of Jatiya Party.

On the other hand, 32 candidates of the National Citizens Party (NCP) are contesting the election under the Shapla Kali symbol. Among the independent candidates, 76 are contesting under the football symbol.
