BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has claimed that the Nationalist Citizen Party (NCP) partially cut portions of his remarks regarding the “July Fighters” made during the July Charter signing event.
Speaking at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Sunday, Salahuddin said, “A political party misinterpreted one of my statements and urged me to apologize. I welcome their approach — this is how democratic practice should work.”
Clarifying his earlier remarks, Salahuddin explained that before the July Charter signing, he told reporters that a group named ‘July Fighters’ had communicated with both the BNP and the Consensus Commission, presenting a “logical demand” that was duly addressed by the commission’s vice president Professor Ali Riaz.
He said, “Some unruly elements, backed by the fascist government, infiltrated under the name of July Fighters and created chaos. No genuine member or organization linked to the July Uprising was involved.”
Salahuddin added, “I don’t believe my statement was distorted, but NCP seems to have quoted it only in part. My clear message was that no genuine July Fighter or organization related to the July Uprising could have been involved in that unrest.”
Responding to questions about the recent fire incidents, he said the matters were under investigation and hinted that “some vested groups” might be attempting to destabilize the country.
On the upcoming election, Salahuddin stated, “All political parties want the election to be held in February. If that is the case, there should be no confusion.”
