Police recovered the body of a day-old male newborn from a lane in the Chandni Ghat area of Chawkbazar on Tuesday afternoon. The infant was discovered unconscious and wrapped in a black plastic bag.
Despite being rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) by local authorities, attending physicians declared the child dead on arrival.
Sub-inspector Ashraful of Chawkbazar Police Station confirmed that an investigation is underway. Officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding neighborhood to identify the individuals who abandoned the baby.
The body has been moved to the hospital morgue for an autopsy, and police have stated that strict legal action will follow the investigation.
