Operations at the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) located in Jamuna Future Park, Dhaka, returned to normal on Thursday morning following a brief suspension triggered by security concerns.
The visa center resumed its full range of services, including new applications and re-applications, starting Thursday (December 18). Earlier, the IVAC had suspended operations from 2:00 PM on Wednesday (December 17) as a precautionary measure due to local instability. Officials confirmed that the situation surrounding the park has returned to normal, allowing applicants to visit safely.
The suspension followed the announcement of a "March to Indian High Commission" program. Protesters organized the march to demand the repatriation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and others, who have been sentenced for crimes against humanity. Demonstrators also voiced concerns regarding alleged political interference by Indian officials in Bangladesh’s internal affairs.
Simultaneously, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned the Bangladesh High Commissioner in Delhi. During the meeting, Indian officials expressed "deep concern" regarding the safety of Indian diplomatic staff and facilities in Bangladesh. The move highlights a growing diplomatic tension between the two neighbors as security challenges persist.
