The country experienced two significant tremors this week, with the most recent, a magnitude 4.0 earthquake, felt across various regions, including the capital, at 6:00 AM on Thursday (December 4th).
According to data from the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the relatively moderate quake had a deep hypocenter, originating approximately 30 kilometers from the surface near Narsingdi. Crucially, immediate reports from authorities confirmed that there were no reports of damage or injuries resulting from the latest incident.
This event follows an earlier, slightly stronger seismic activity recorded on Tuesday (December 2nd). That morning, a magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck the Bay of Bengal at 7:00 AM.
Information regarding this earlier tremor was provided by Telegraph India, which cited the National Earthquake Centre under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. The epicentre of the Bay of Bengal quake was pinpointed at 20.56 degrees North latitude and 92.31 degrees East longitude, with a depth of 35 kilometers. While coastal residents were advised about the risk, no major disaster was reported from the offshore event.
