The Supreme Court's High Court Division saw a significant regularization today, November 11, as the Law Ministry issued a gazette notification appointing 22 additional judges as permanent judges.
These judges were initially appointed as additional judges on October 9, 2024, in the aftermath of the July Uprising. The confirmation of these 22 judges formalizes their tenure on the High Court bench.
The newly regularized judges are, Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, Justice Syed Enayet Hossain, Justice Md Mansur Alam, Justice Sayed Jahed Mansur, Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja, Justice Md Jabid Hossain, Justice Mubina Asaf, Justice Kazi Waliul Islam, Justice Aynun Nahar Siddiqua, Justice Md Abdul Mannan, Justice Tamanna Rahman Khalidi, Justice Md Shofiul Alam Mahmood, Justice Md Hamidur Rahman, Justice Nasreen Akter, Justice Shathika Hossain, Justice Syed Mohammed Tazrul Hossain, Justice Md Toufiq Inam, Justice Yousuf Abdullah Suman, Justice Sk Tahsin Ali, Justice Foyej Ahmed, Justice Md Sagir Hossain, and Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi.
Of the 23 additional judges appointed in October, Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury was the sole person not made permanent. According to Supreme Court administration sources, the reason for the exclusion is his age; he has not yet reached the minimum qualifying age of 45 years required for a permanent judgeship under the ordinance. Justice Roy Chowdhury will continue to serve as an additional judge until he turns 45 in March and completes his two-year term.
