The High Court has granted bail to Dr. Dipu Moni, former minister and joint general secretary of the banned Awami League, in two cases, including one filed at Dhaka's Paltan Police Station.Simultaneously, the court issued a rule asking why she should not be granted bail in several other cases.
According to her defense lawyer, Ramzan Ali Sikder, Dipu Moni is currently facing a total of 38 cases. Two of these cases fall under the jurisdiction of the International Crimes Tribunal. While the High Court has approved bail for two cases, further legal reviews are pending for her remaining bail applications.
Throughout her political career, Dipu Moni served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education, and Social Welfare. Following the ouster of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, amid a mass student and public uprising, she was arrested from Dhaka’s Baridhara area on August 19, 2024. The charges against her include murder, crimes against humanity, corruption, and inciting violence.
The judicial process for these cases is ongoing, and all allegations remain legally unproven until a final court verdict is delivered.
