A day-long orientation workshop was held in Narail on Saturday to make the local dispute resolution system more effective and accessible for citizens.
The workshop took place at the Narail Sadar Municipality Conference Room. It was organized by the district administration in collaboration with the Local Government Department under Phase III of the Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh Project.
Julia Sukaina, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department in Narail, presided over the event.
Committee members from Narail Sadar, Kalia, and Lohagara Upazilas attended, alongside government officials and project representatives, including District Manager General Islam and Upazila Coordinators Rezmin Sultana, Md. Omar Farooq, Alok Kumar Pal, and Krishnapada Sarkar.
Speakers emphasized that village courts are vital for resolving minor disputes quickly, easily, and at a low cost. To ensure justice reaches people's doorsteps, they stressed the need to build public awareness and train management committee members.
In her closing remarks, Deputy Director Julia Sukaina urged committee members to work with transparency and accountability to earn public trust. "Resolving disputes quickly at the local level preserves social harmony and reduces the burden of cases on higher courts," she said.
The workshop concluded with interactive sessions guiding participants through the legal framework, mediation techniques, and operational strategies of village courts.
