A writ petition has been filed in the High Court challenging the validity of the voter list for the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election. Six councillors have reportedly returned the list, forcing legal intervention.

The petition is scheduled for a hearing before the High Court bench comprising Justice Bhishmadev Chakraborty and Justice Md. Asif Hasan.

This legal dispute emerges shortly after the Chief Election Commissioner's Office announced the schedule for the BCB Board of Directors' Election-2026 via an official notification on May 16. According to that timeline, the elections are set to take place on June 7, with the official results to be declared on the same day.

Following the initial schedule announcement, the Election Commission released the draft voter list at 4:00 PM on May 17. The election structure dictates the following breakdown for the incoming leadership:

Directly Elected Positions: 23 directors will be chosen via direct votes.

Nominated Positions: 2 directors will be nominated by the National Sports Council (NSC).

Board Presidency: The final 25-member body of directors will cast their votes to elect the new BCB President.

The BCB election process is currently being managed by a three-member Election Commission formed on May 13. Senior Supreme Court Advocate Ahsanul Karim serves as the Chief Election Commissioner. The panel also includes Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Israil Hawlader, and NSC Director and Assistant Secretary ABM Ehsanul Mamun.

The upcoming High Court hearing remains critical, as any judicial ruling on the voter list could impact the planned June 7 election timeline.
