Renewed fighting between Thailand and Cambodia along their disputed border has forced thousands of families on both sides to flee their homes, despite a fragile truce brokered in July by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The conflict, which resumed on Monday, has led to massive evacuations to temporary shelters, though some, like Thai village head Wuttikrai Chimngarm in Buriram province, have stayed behind to safeguard property against looting. Civilians on both sides expressed distress and anger, with Thai villagers accusing Cambodia of breaking the ceasefire agreement.
In Cambodia, residents near the disputed village of Kaun Kriel, which was previously targeted in the July clashes that killed at least 48 people, have fled again.
Cambodian harvester Marng Sarun stated he was fleeing for the second time, having expected the U.S.-brokered peace agreement to hold. Both nations accuse the other of reigniting the conflict and targeting civilian areas.
