The government plans to allocate 5 percent of the national GDP to the education sector to drive quality improvements and systemic reforms, announced Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon.
Speaking as the chief guest at a UNICEF-organized program at Hotel Sheraton on Thursday morning, the Minister emphasized the administration's commitment to building a skilled future generation.
"The government is prepared to invest 5 percent of our total GDP to bring radical changes to the education sector," Dr. Milon stated. He noted that under previous administrations, education investment stagnated at around 1.5 percent, a figure this government aims to significantly surpass to develop human capital.
Addressing modernization, the Minister criticized past failures in implementing digital classrooms, citing a lack of transparency and accountability. He reaffirmed the current government’s pledge to establish interactive digital classrooms as promised by the Prime Minister.
Dr. Mahdi Amin, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor, also addressed the event as an invited guest. He called for urgent structural reforms and a shift in how society perceives the teaching profession.
"We must elevate the status of teaching to a level where the country’s brightest young talents choose it as their first-choice career," Dr. Amin remarked, stressing that quality education is inseparable from the dignity of educators.
