


Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to settle a class-action lawsuit accusing it of misleading consumers about AI upgrades for its Siri voice assistant.
The lawsuit was filed in 2024 by Peter Landsheft in a California federal court. It claimed Apple heavily promoted "Apple Intelligence" features at its 2024 developer conference, promising they would arrive with the fall iPhone launch.
However, key AI upgrades were missing when the new iPhones went on sale.The settlement, filed on Tuesday, aims to resolve claims that the delays misled millions of buyers. Apple has agreed to the payout but denies any wrongdoing.
About 36 million U.S. customers who bought iPhone 16 models or iPhone 15 Pro between June 2024 and March 2025.
Eligible users could receive $25 to $95 per device, depending on the number of valid claims.
The company says it has already released several AI tools, including Writing Tools and Genmoji. It describes the dispute as limited to two additional features.
"Vaporware" Controversy Plaintiffs argued that Apple’s ads promised advanced Siri features such as performing tasks across apps that were not ready, calling them “vaporware.” Apple later admitted the full Siri overhaul would be delayed. Reports suggest these features may launch at the company’s developer conference next month.
“We resolved this matter to stay focused on delivering innovative products and services to our users,” Apple said in a statement.
