A 20-year-old woman, Chandni Akhter Khadija, was allegedly beaten to death with a cricket bat by her husband while she slept at a relative's house in Narail Sadar Upazila. Police have arrested the husband, Shakib Sheikh, in connection with the murder.

The incident occurred around 1:30 AM on Tuesday in Bahirgram, Kolora Union. According to police, the couple, residents of Phultala in Khulna, had arrived in Narail on Monday to visit relatives.

Local sources and police investigations revealed that the couple suffered from frequent domestic disputes, reportedly fueled by Shakib’s drug addiction and unemployment. On the night of the incident, Shakib attacked Khadija with a bat while she was asleep. Relatives rushed her to Narail District Hospital, where the duty doctor declared her dead.

Inspector (Investigation) Ajay Kumar Kundu of Narail Sadar Police Station stated that the family initially attempted to report the death as an accidental injury. However, police grew suspicious of inconsistencies in Shakib’s statement. Under interrogation, Shakib confessed to the killing. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
