At least 12 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups over the formation of a mosque committee in Narail Sadar upazila on Friday (May 22). All the injured are currently receiving treatment at the Narail Modern Sadar Hospital.

The violent confrontation occurred around 11:30 am in the Singia Banikpara area under Hobkhali union.

According to local sources, a long-standing dispute existed between two village factions—one led by Alam Molya and the other by Mejba Uddin—regarding the leadership and control of the Singia Banikpara Jame Mosque. Tensions boiled over into a physical clash during a scheduled discussion meeting about the committee on Friday morning.

Among the injured from the Alam Molya faction are Israfil Biswas, Badsha Molya, Dalil Biswas, Mocha Biswas, Lipon Biswas, Jinnat Biswas, Rabbi Biswas, and Akij Molya. The injured from the Mejba Uddin group include Arab Ali, Liton Biswas, Moshiar Rahman, and Nasirul Molya.

Narail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ajay Kumar Kundu stated that additional police forces have been deployed to the area to maintain law and order and prevent further violence.

"No formal written complaint has been filed by either party yet," the OC added. "Legal action will be taken as soon as a complaint is received."
