Narail UP Member Hacked to Death in Night Attack

A Union Parishad (UP) member was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in the Naragati police station area of Kalia upazila Narail late Thursday night.

The victim 45-year-old Md. Moni Mia Sheikh, was the Ward 1 member of Joynagar Union and a resident of Charjoynagar village.

According to police and local sources the attack occurred around 11:30 PM as Moni Mia was returning home after shopping at the Puthimari market. When he reached the Panipara area, a group of armed attackers lying in wait ambushed him with locally made weapons. They hacked him indiscriminately and fled, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued the heavily bleeding UP member and rushed him to the Kalia Upazila Health Complex. After administering primary treatment doctors referred him to Dhaka for advanced care. However, he succumbed to his injuries en route later that night.

Naragati Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rahim confirmed the murder. "The body has been sent to the morgue for an autopsy," he stated. "Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain order, and multiple teams are working to arrest those involved in the incident."
