Police have arrested a key suspect in the brutal murder of Anwar Molya, a mentally disabled youth who was tied to a tree and beaten to death over false theft suspicions.
Acting on a tip-off and using digital surveillance, police apprehended 25-year-old Akash Biswas early Friday (July 3) from a relative's house in Narkelbaria, Jashore. Narail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ajay Kumar Kundu stated that Akash, the fourth named accused in the case, was found hiding under a bed. He has since been handed over to the court.
Anwar, son of Kawsar Uddin Molya from Sarkeldanga village, died on Thursday (July 2) after eight days of critical care at Khulna Medical College Hospital. Following his funeral on Thursday evening, outraged locals staged protest marches from Banshgram Bazar to his village, demanding immediate justice through a speedy trial tribunal.
The tragic incident unfolded on June 24, when Anwar went missing from his home. Later that night, a group of youths in Gobra Malopara tied him to a tree and severely tortured him until the early hours. Police rescued him on the morning of June 25 and admitted him to Narail District Hospital before his deteriorating condition forced a transfer to Khulna.
Following the incident, Anwar’s brother, Nabir Hossain, filed a murder case at Narail Sadar Police Station against five named individuals and several unidentified suspects.
