The death of an 18-year-old housewife, Sumaiya Begum, has sparked mystery and allegations of murder in Lohagara Upazila, Narail. The victim’s family claims she was beaten to death by her husband, Yamin Sheikh, while the husband maintains she died of illness.
The incident occurred on Saturday night (March 7) in Shultia village, under Noagram Union.
Sumaiya, daughter of Farid Bhuiyan from Chachoi Dhanair village, was married to Yamin Sheikh, son of Fasiar Sheikh. The couple has a two-month-old son.
The victim’s father, Farid Bhuiyan, alleged that his daughter was murdered by Yamin and his family. "They didn't even inform us," he said. "We rushed there after hearing the news from others. They claimed she died of breathing difficulties while being medicated, but Sumaiya had no such health issues. There are visible marks on her legs and neck. I demand justice for my daughter."
Refuting the allegations, Yamin Sheikh claimed his wife died while being rushed to a doctor following a sudden respiratory attack. "She had a history of breathing problems," he stated.
Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rahman confirmed that the body has been recovered and sent to Narail District Hospital for an autopsy. "Further legal action will be taken once the autopsy report is available," the OC added.
