Allegation of Vandalism and Looting at Boishakhi Bela Park in Monohardi, Tk 15 Lakh Extortion Demand

Allegations of vandalism, looting and a demand for Tk 15 lakh in extortion have been raised against several local individuals at Boishakhi Bela Limited Park located in Bogardi Chourasta area of Gotashia Union Monohardi Upazila, Narsingdi.

According to the park authorities, the incident occurred around 8:00 AM on Friday (July 17).

The authorities allege that Nurul Haque, Mojibur Rahman, Zakir Hossain, Kabir Hossain, Alfaz Uddin, Mannan Mia, Abu Turab, Niloy and several others entered the park after holding the park employees hostage. At that time, they vandalized various property, looted some items and demolished the park’s boundary wall. The park authorities claim that the damage amounts to around Tk 2 lakh.

Park Chairman Habibur Rahman Rangu said the accused demanded Tk 15 lakh in extortion from them. He alleged that failing to get the money they carried out the vandalism and looting. A written complaint has been filed at Monohardi Police Station regarding the incident and preparations for a case are underway he added.

On the other hand accused Nurul Haque denied the extortion allegation. He said they did not demand any extortion money rather they went there to claim rent or dues for their own land. However, he admitted to the allegation of vandalism at the park.

Regarding this allegation Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Monohardi Police Station said "We have received the written complaint. Legal action will be taken after investigation.
