The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has issued five strict directives to tackle traffic congestion and restore order to CNG-powered autorickshaw operations in the city. Traffic police are actively publicizing these rules across major roads and overbridges.
The five core directives are:
1. No Police Tokens: The CMP clarifies it has no involvement in issuing tokens. Selling or displaying tokens on autorickshaws using the police's name is strictly banned. Violators will face legal action and vehicles with tokens will be seized. Drivers are urged not to buy them.
2. Strict Parking Rules: Autorickshaws must only pick up or drop off passengers in designated areas. Parking anywhere else will result in the vehicle being impounded.
3. No Rural or Unregistered Vehicles: Village-area CNGs and "On Test" autorickshaws are barred from entering the metropolitan area. Vehicles lacking updated documents will be seized.
4. Ban on Battery-Powered Rickshaws: To prevent accidents, battery-powered rickshaws are completely banned from main roads, bridges or driving against traffic flow. Violating vehicles will be impounded.
5. Enforcement: The CMP Traffic-Port Division warned that failure to comply with these rules will lead to immediate vehicle impoundment and legal penalties.
