A United States citizen has filed a General Diary (GD) with the Basan Police Station in Gazipur, alleging he was attacked and threatened by the sons of a local BNP leader.
The victim, Md. Akram Hossain, a resident of Bhogra Madhyapara and an American passport holder, sought legal protection on Sunday following an incident involving the sons of Gias Uddin, Senior Vice President of Basan Thana BNP.
According to the complaint, Akram Hossain—who is currently staying in his village home for family reasons—owns a residential building and several shops in the Bhogra area. He stated that he and several neighbors had previously invested approximately 2.5 lakh BDT to install an electrical transformer for their properties.
The conflict reportedly began on Wednesday morning, February 25, when Azharul Islam (alias Azad), Faizul Islam, and Rokon—all sons of Gias Uddin—attempted to draw electricity from that transformer for a newly built tin-shed rental house.
"When I questioned the unauthorized connection, they began verbally abusing me and my parents," Akram Hossain alleged. "As I tried to call my brother to inform him, they physically attacked me. They then began forcibly closing my shop shutters and threatened to kill me if I interfered."
Local witnesses intervened to rescue Akram and reportedly captured video footage of the altercation, which has been provided to the police.
Locals allege that the BNP leader’s sons frequently use their father's political influence to extort residents. Residents claimed that those constructing new buildings are often forced to pay "commissions" or hire the brothers for construction work. Those who resist are reportedly branded as "Awami League affiliates" and harassed with retaliatory legal cases.
Akram Hossain expressed deep concern for his family's safety, prompting his appeal to the authorities. However, the primary accused, Azharul Islam Azad, has denied the allegations of physical assault.
