Police arrested six suspected drug dealers during a coordinated anti-drug operation across Daulatkhan Upazila in Bhola on Friday night.
Acting on a tip-off officers conducted targeted raids in various areas to apprehend the suspects. The arrestees were identified as Md. Ibrahim of Syedpur Union; Akbar a Grameen Bank night guard in Khairhat; Parvez and Ibrahim of Bhabanipur Union; Babul from the municipal area; and Nur Nabi of Charkhalifa Union.
Daulatkhan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Fakhrul Islam confirmed the arrests, stating that the individuals had been involved in the local drug trade for an extended period. "A case is being filed against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act and they will be sent to jail through the court" the OC added.
The arrests arrive amid growing public concern over the proliferation of narcotics in Daulatkhan. Locals report that the drug trade has increasingly ensnared community youth, driving a corresponding rise in secondary offenses such as theft, robbery and domestic disputes.
Residents have urged law enforcement to sustain these regular anti-drug drives to curb the social unrest and criminal activity fueled by the illicit trade.
