An Israeli airstrike on a funeral in Gaza’s Nuseirat refugee camp has killed at least seven people and injured 22 others according to Al-Awda hospital. The mourners had gathered to bury a Palestinian killed in a separate Israeli attack earlier that day.
The strike occurs amid mounting international alarm over the ongoing civilian toll in Gaza particularly among children despite a ceasefire agreement enacted in October 2025.
According to a recent report by the Israeli daily Haaretz, Israel continues to kill children as a “matter of routine.” The publication revealed that 274 children have been killed since the ceasefire took effect averaging one child per day. Since the conflict escalated in October 2023 over 21,000 children have died from airstrikes, sniper fire and collapsing buildings. Uncounted others have perished from starvation, untreated wounds and diseases exacerbated by Gaza’s collapsed healthcare system.
Despite the October 2025 truce aimed at halting the multi-year war violence persists. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that over 1,120 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire began. The Israeli military maintains that its recent strikes are responses to militant shooting attacks.
Meanwhile, the broader humanitarian crisis remains catastrophic. Approximately 1.7 million Palestinians are living in makeshift tents without electricity, clean water or basic sanitation. Severe heat, widespread pests and infectious diseases are ravaging the displaced population.
Since October 2023, the total Palestinian death toll has surpassed 73,000 with about 90% of Gaza's civilian infrastructure damaged or destroyed.
