The Chittagong Hill Tracts Citizens' Council (PCNP) has formed a new partial central committee, electing Abdul Hamid Rana as chairman and Mohammad Solaiman as secretary-general.
The decision was finalized during an urgent meeting at the Dhaka Shishu Kalyan Parishad on Saturday presided over by Engineer Alkas Al Mamun Bhuiyan, president of the PCNP standing committee. During the session existing committee was dissolved by consensus and the new leadership was instructed to form a full-fledged central committee within a month.
Prominent leaders including standing committee member Bir Muktijoddha Moniruzzaman, former central vice-president Principal Abu Taher and former central secretary-general Alamgir Kabir addressed the gathering.
In their speeches leaders expressed grave concerns over alleged domestic and foreign conspiracies aimed at destabilizing the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). They claimed that vested quarters are actively trying to marginalize the Bengali community living in the hill districts and systematically deprive them of their fundamental rights.
To counter these perceived threats and protest against regional discrimination the newly formed PCNP leadership announced plans to launch a broader, unified political movement in the coming days.
