


A devastating head-on collision between a passenger bus and a microbus in Chakaria, Cox's Bazar, this morning has resulted in five fatalities and two injuries.
The accident occurred around 10:30 am (some sources indicate around 9:00 am) in the Haser Dighi/Dhala area on the busy Cox's Bazar–Chattogram highway. The collision involved a microbus heading towards Cox's Bazar and a Marsha Paribahan bus traveling in the opposite direction towards Chattogram.
Five people were confirmed dead. Initial reports from police and local sources strongly suggest that the deceased and the injured may belong to the same family traveling in the microbus.
Later updates from news sources have confirmed that all five deceased were members of the same family. The deceased microbus passengers are four women and one child.
Malumghat Highway Police Outpost Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mehedi Hasan confirmed that two people died on the spot. Five people were initially injured and transported to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex, where three of them were later declared dead by doctors. The two injured survivors are receiving treatment.
Both the bus and the microbus sustained severe damage.6 Police are continuing rescue and recovery operations, and efforts are still underway to fully confirm the identities of all the deceased. The involved vehicles have been seized by the highway police.
The tragic incident underscores the need for greater road safety measures on national highways.
