A series of tragic road accidents across Faridpur district marred the Eid holidays, leaving five people dead—including a retired paramilitary member—and four others injured over a 24-hour period.
According to law enforcement authorities, all three incidents involved high-impact motorcycle collisions on major highways.
On Thursday evening, May 28, a retired Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member was killed in Bhanga upazila. The victim, Alimuzzaman Matubbar, 55, was riding his motorcycle when he collided head-on with another motorcycle near the Suadi bus stand on the Dhaka-Khulna highway.
Alimuzzaman, a resident of Uttar Kandi village in Nagarkanda upazila, died from the impact.
Earlier that afternoon, around 5:00 PM, a head-on collision between a private car and a motorcycle near the Narankhali Bridge in Nagarkanda upazila claimed the lives of two teenagers.
Rajan Sheikh, 18, died on the spot. His friend, Ibrahim Fakir, 17, was rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital with critical injuries but passed away later that evening during treatment.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Mamun of the Bhanga Highway Police Station stated that the two friends, both residents of Nawabari Ghoshkandi village, were riding toward the Bhanga Gol Chattar area for an Eid day outing. Police have seized both the car and the motorcycle, and a case is being filed.
The wave of fatalities began on Wednesday night, May 27, the eve of Eid, when a reckless collision between two motorcycles left two young men dead in the Purba Sadardi area of the Dhaka-Barishal highway.
According to highway police, a speeding motorcycle bound for Barishal from Dhaka slammed into an oncoming motorcycle, throwing four riders onto the tarmac.
Locals and police rescued the victims and rushed them to the Bhanga Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Ali Imran Sharif, 24, and Md. Saiful Molla, 23, dead on arrival. The other two injured riders received treatment at a local hospital.
Md. Helal Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhanga Highway Police Station, confirmed the five fatalities. "Four others remain injured across these separate incidents. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their respective families following legal procedures," he said.
This report is compiled from official case entries and briefings provided by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Helal Uddin and Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Mamun of the Bhanga Highway Police Station, alongside medical logs from the Bhanga Upazila Health Complex and Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
