Sirajganj Food Inspector & Family Jailed for Corruption in Pabna

A Pabna court has sentenced a government food inspector along with his wife and father to prison for amassing illegal wealth. The court also fined the trio over Tk 1.24 crore and ordered the confiscation of their assets.

Judge Abu Saleh Md. Salahuddin Khan of the Pabna Special District and Sessions Judge's Court delivered the verdict on Thursday in two separate corruption cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The principal convict Monirul Islam the Assistant Food Inspector at the Kamarkhand Food Controller's Office in Sirajganj received a total of 10 years of rigorous imprisonment across the two cases. His father Shahidul Islam Pramanik and wife Dolly Begum were each sentenced to five years in prison. All three convicts are currently absconding.

According to ACC Deputy Director and plaintiff Shahidul Alam Sarkar, Monirul accumulated wealth well beyond his known income. Investigations revealed that his father built a house using Tk 54.8 lakh of the illicit funds while his wife deposited Tk 60 lakh into a fixed bank account. The ACC initially filed the cases against the family in December 2021.

In addition to the prison sentences and the judge fined Monirul approximately Tk 1.14 crore. His wife and father were fined Tk 5 lakh each. The court mandated the immediate seizure of all their movable and immovable properties in favor of the state.
