


A 50-year-old woman was killed and two others were seriously injured when a motorcycle collided head-on with a passenger bus on the Tangail-Jamalpur regional highway on Friday afternoon.
The accident occurred near the Nalya bus stand in Dhanbari upazila. The deceased was identified as Rita Akhter, wife of Sakhawat Hossain from Gopinathpur village in Bhuiyanpur upazila.
According to police, Rita was traveling toward Jamalpur on a motorcycle ridden by her son, with her husband as the other passenger. The motorcycle collided with a Dhaka-bound passenger bus coming from the opposite direction. Rita died on the spot, and the motorcycle was severely damaged.
Her husband, Sakhawat Hossain (60), and son, Arif (25), sustained critical injuries. Locals rescued them and rushed them to the Dhanbari Upazila Health Complex. Following primary treatment, they were transferred to Tangail Medical College Hospital as their conditions deteriorated. They are currently undergoing emergency medical care.
The incident sparked deep grief among local residents. Dhanbari police quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and clear the highway.
Dhanbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurus Salam Siddique stated that legal procedures are underway, and law enforcement is actively working to identify and seize the bus involved in the accident, which fled the scene.
