The accused, Saiful Islam (39), was apprehended in Dhaka's Dakshinkhan area on Thursday morning. Following his arrest, he gave a confessional statement in court under Section 164 admitting to the crime.
Gazipur PBI Superintendent of Police Md. Rakibul Akhter confirmed the details during a press briefing. On Tuesday night and police recovered the body of 33-year-old Shanta Begum a garment worker originally from Natore. She was found in a hotel room in the Chandana Chowrasta area with fatal stab wounds to her neck and chest.
According to PBI investigations that the couple had a turbulent relationship. Saiful had recently discovered Shanta's previous marriages and frequently suspected her of infidelity. Although the couple had briefly divorced and remarried Saiful’s suspicions persisted in leading to frequent arguments.

The altercation escalated, and Saiful fatally stabbed Shanta with a fruit knife he had previously asked her to bring. He then fled the scene with taking her mobile phone and ID card.
