In a swift joint operation, RAB-1 and RAB-13 have arrested a man named Jalal alias Dulu (30) for the alleged murder of his wife over a dowry dispute in Gazipur. The arrest took place in Kurigram early Saturday morning, less than 24 hours after the crime was committed.
The victim, Mastura Akhter alias Suma (28), lived with her husband in a rented apartment in the Chandana area of Gazipur. According to a press release by Lieutenant Commander Md. Nafiz Bin Jamal of RAB-1, the tragedy unfolded around 2:50 AM on December 26.
Driven by a family dispute regarding dowry, Dulu allegedly strangled Suma to death. In a chilling turn of events, the accused locked the body inside their room and personally called his father-in-law to inform him of the murder before fleeing the scene.
Upon receiving the information, Basan Police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. The victim’s father, Md. Mirajul Islam, subsequently filed a case under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act 2000.
Using advanced information technology and intelligence surveillance, RAB traced the suspect to the Rajarjat area of Kurigram. A joint team from Gazipur and Rangpur conducted a raid at 1:10 AM on December 27, apprehending Dulu in the Ramakrishna Mandalpara area.
During primary interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the killing. He has since been handed over to the Basan Police Station for further legal proceedings.
