In a notable display of financial discipline, the upazila administration in Morelganj has returned Tk 42.4 lakh of unspent project funds to the government treasury following the successful re-excavation of two local canals.

Additionally, Tk 15.56 lakh was deposited as VAT and income tax from the project's total allocation of Tk 2.06 crore.

The environmental and infrastructure initiative spanned Ward 1 of Balibunia Union and Ward 7 of Khaulia Union. According to Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Ahsan Ullah, the comprehensive effort involved dredging four kilometers of canals, constructing six wooden bridges, and planting 10,000 saplings. The project also generated local employment, engaging 438 workers.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Habibullah confirmed that the initiative—designed to protect the local environment and conserve native fish species—was completed on schedule without compromising quality. Because the work was finalized under budget, the administration officially deposited the remaining funds back into the government treasury on Thursday (July 23).

The efficient execution and visible results of the project have earned widespread praise from local residents, political leaders, and the workers involved, setting a positive precedent for rural infrastructure management.
