Jurgen Klopp Expected to Be Named Germany Head Coach on Friday

Jurgen Klopp is widely expected to be named the new head coach of the German men's national football team. The German Football Association (DFB) has called a press conference for 11:00 AM (09:00 GMT) Friday at its Frankfurt headquarters where the announcement is anticipated.

Klopp 59, has been in talks to revive Germany's struggling national team and is expected to sign a contract running through the 2030 World Cup. The DFB's governing bodies are meeting to formally approve the deal before the official announcement.

Since 2025, Klopp has served as Red Bull's "Head of Global Football" overseeing clubs like RB Leipzig and the New York Red Bulls. According to German media Red Bull will release him without a transfer fee. In return a €1 million ($1.1 million) donation will be made to Red Bull's Wings for Life charity which funds spinal cord research.

The DFB recently dismissed Julian Nagelsmann following Germany’s disappointing Round of 32 penalty shootout loss to Paraguay in this World Cup. This marked Germany’s third consecutive World Cup failure since their 2014 triumph and early exits in 2018 and 2022.

Klopp brings a proven track record to the national setup. After successful stints at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund also he became a modern legend at Liverpool. He guided the English club to their sixth Champions League title and ended their 30-year league title drought in 2020 before stepping down in 2024.
