China has successfully deployed a new data relay satellite into orbit from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwestern Sichuan Province.
The satellite named Tianlian II-06, was launched aboard a Long March-3B carrier rocket at 8:00 p.m. Beijing Time on Thursday successfully entering its designated orbit. This deployment marks the sixth satellite in the Tianlian II series which serves as China's advanced second-generation data relay network.
According to the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) the nation's primary space contractor the Tianlian II-06 will play a crucial role in China's expanding space operations. The satellite is designed to provide vital telemetry, tracking and command (TT&C) services alongside high-speed data relay capabilities.
It will primarily support crewed spacecraft, the Tiangong space station and various medium- and low-Earth-orbit remote-sensing satellites. Furthermore newly launched satellite will offer essential TT&C support for future spacecraft launches.
Thursday's mission highlights the rapid pace of China's aerospace program. It represents the country's 52nd space launch of the year and marks the 658th flight mission for the workhorse Long March carrier rocket series.
