Continuing its remarkable success, Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has once again ranked first among all public and private universities in Bangladesh in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, published today, October 9, by the UK-based prestigious education magazine. According to the ranking, GAU is placed nationally at the top and has secured the 461st position globally in research quality, a groundbreaking milestone for higher education and research institutions in Bangladesh. Overall, GAU ranks in the 801–1000 band globally. The assessment was based on five key performance indicators: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook, using 13–18 carefully calibrated metrics. This year’s ranking evaluated 2,191 institutions across 115 countries. Among the 19 Bangladeshi universities included in the 2026 rankings, GAU has excelled across all criteria to claim the top national position. In the 2025 editions of THE’s World University Subject Rankings, Impact Rankings and Asia Rankings, GAU also ranked first nationally and secured significant global standings. Moreover, in the 2025 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), GAU was ranked 77th globally among the top 100 universities for technological and innovative contributions. Speaking on this achievement, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman stated, “This recognition is not just for GAU but for the entire higher education and research landscape of Bangladesh. We have demonstrated that with strategic planning, research-led teaching, and adherence to international standards, it is possible to build a world-class university in Bangladesh. This ranking will play a vital role in expanding our global presence.” He added, “This outstanding achievement is the result of the collective dedication of our faculty, students, staff and field workers. On behalf of the university, I extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone involved.”
