


A timely seminar focused on preventing sexual harassment, promoting gender equality, and ensuring ethical conduct took place at GAU.
Organized by the university's Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the event was held in the old auditorium on Wednesday afternoon. The seminar aimed to foster a safe, respectful, inclusive, and harassment-free campus environment while enhancing the institutional culture.
The seminar was presided over by GAU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. GKM Mostafizur Rahman, with Professor Dr. Masuma Habib, a member of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC), serving as the chief guest. Other notable attendees included GAU Pro-VC Professor Dr. M. Mainul Haque, Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Shafiul Islam Afrad, and Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, Director (Research) of the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute. All faculty members, including Proctor of GKRU, Professor Dr. Mohammad Saiful Alam, participated in the seminar.
The program commenced with a welcome speech by the Director of IQAC, Professor Dr. Nasreen Akhter Ivy. Following this, the chief guest and keynote speaker, Dr. Masuma Habib, delivered an engaging and informative presentation on sexual harassment. Her talk emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to achieve gender equality in educational settings, create a safe atmosphere, and prevent sexual harassment.
Thanks to her practical examples and analytical approach, attendees became more aware and motivated regarding the topic. During the open question and answer session that followed the main presentation, participants enriched the discussion by sharing their thoughts and inquiries. In his closing remarks, Professor Dr. GKM Mostafizur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of GKU, stated, "Every student, teacher, and staff member at our university deserves a safe environment. Sexual harassment not only harms individuals but also undermines the educational atmosphere.
Thus, the seminar we have today is more than just a formality; it represents our shared commitment. We aspire for GKU to be recognized as a place where respect, courtesy, and humanity are of utmost importance.
Everyone in attendance voiced their resolve to persist with awareness initiatives, highlighting the importance of working together to foster a safe, respectful, and gender-equal atmosphere within the academic setting. It's important to mention that the seminar was led by Professor Dr. Mohammad Sharif Raihan, the Director of GKU (Student Welfare).
