He was arrested during a raid on a business establishment owned by Tipu named 'Ayan Enterprise' in the Agrabad area of the city on Tuesday (October 28) night.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Doublemooring Police Station Kazi Babul Azad said that a firearm and four types of ammunition were recovered from Tipu's office during the raid. The quantity of ammunition will be announced after counting.

Mostafa Kamal Tipu is a resident of the Agrabad Nazirpara Magpukurpar area of Chittagong city. Former Chhatra League leader Tipu was later involved in Awami League politics.

At one time, he was a follower of former general secretary of the city Awami League, AJM Nasir Uddin. Later, he joined the group of former Awami League MP MA Latif from Bandar-Patenga area. He used to identify himself as a follower of former minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel.

On August 4 last year, Tipu opened fire on students and the public during an anti-discrimination movement in the New Market area of the city.

OC Babul Azad said, "There are pictures and video footage of Tipu openly firing during the student-public movement. He was in hiding for some time after August 5. Recently, he came out in public and was conducting political activities sitting in his business establishment. Based on secret information, we were able to arrest him."

There are several cases against Tipu in the city's Kotwali, Double Mooring, Chandgaon and Panchlaish police stations and they are being investigated, the OC said.
