The Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued 12 passengers on Sunday night after their engine-powered boat became stranded in the Meghna River near Monpura.
High winds caused the wooden boat's engine to fail, leaving the vessel drifting helplessly in the river. One of the passengers contacted the national emergency service (999), which alerted the Coast Guard.
A rescue team from the Monpura Coast Guard Outpost was immediately dispatched. They located the drifting boat and safely towed it, along with all 12 passengers, to the Hazirhat pier in Monpura.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Media Officer for the Coast Guard South Zone, confirmed that all rescued individuals are safe and have been returned to land.
