Assistant Attorney General Tariqul Resigns to Contest Bar Polls

Assistant Attorney General Md. Tariqul Islam resigned from his post on Tuesday morning to contest the upcoming Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections for the 2026-27 session.

Tariqul submitted his formal resignation to the Attorney General, citing personal reasons and the need to prepare for the polls. He confirmed his intention to run for the position of Co-Secretary.

"I have voluntarily stepped down to ensure compliance with election rules and to uphold a fair competitive environment," Tariqul stated in his application. He requested the Attorney General to process the resignation immediately.

The Supreme Court Bar Association elections are scheduled to take place on May 13 and 14.
