Bangladesh Bank has issued guidelines urging customers to remain highly cautious while using mobile apps and online banking services to avoid financial fraud.
In a recent advisory, the central bank said some customers are becoming victims of online banking fraud through hacking. To prevent such incidents, it has asked users to follow several safety measures.
Customers are advised to avoid clicking on suspicious links, installing free apps from unknown sources, and engaging in online gambling.
The central bank also warned against using unlicensed apps or responding to unsecured loan and investment offers circulated on social media in the name of institutions such as Bangladesh Bank, the World Bank, IMF, and the Asian Development Bank. It further advised people not to conduct financial transactions with unknown individuals.
