A pre-dawn fire destroyed six shops at Badsha Mia Bazar in Morelganj on Tuesday, resulting in an estimated loss of approximately Tk 30 lakh.
The blaze broke out around 4:00 AM. Passengers on a Dhaka-to-Sharankhola bus first spotted the flames and alerted local residents. Following a 999 emergency call, two units of the Fire Service arrived and brought the fire under control after an hour-long effort.
Traders believe the fire originated from an electrical short circuit in a shop specializing in electronics and battery chargers. The affected business owners have been identified as Md. Awal Mridha (sound systems), Golok Mondal and Shekhar Chandra Halder (pharmacies), Zakaria Munshir (tea stall), Chitta Dutta (silk and tailoring), and Suman Sheikh (garments).
Local MP Principal Md. Abdul Alim and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Habibullah visited the site at 10:00 AM to assess the damage and speak with the affected traders.
